2022: The Year of Spinning Wheels
Hey there gamers and game developers! It's been a while, huh? Sorry for the radio silence over the last year, we've been busy learning and experimenting with new game development tools and techniques.
The Godot Era
During spring and summer, we took a little time off from our main project, Mnemosyne. But don't worry, we didn't forget about her completely. In fact, we turned to Zenva, an online tutorial site for game development, to learn the ins and outs of the Godot engine. No need to wait for Godot output, however, as we were able to jam together some quick prototypes after doing some of the coursework.
Fantasy Island
With our newfound skills, we created two games using Godot: ASHES ASHES, a falling simulator that's "ash"-kicking fun, and THROUGH, a desert exploration survival game that's definitely not a walk in the park. We also participated in a few other game jams and created games using fantasy consoles Pico 8 (DISSIMILATE II, a rhythmic puzzler) and LowRes NX (DEAD ETERNITY, an infinite-scrolling shoot-em-up based on the themes of the metal band In Flames).
These and more can be found on the Muscarian Games Itch store!
Return to Mnemosyne
Towards the end of the year, we revisited Mnemosyne and worked on improving automated testing and other infrastructure. We also decided to scrap our custom admin panels, stop reinventing the wheel, and instead implement a new admin panel and database using Payload CMS (because who doesn't love a good payload of features?).
All in all, it was a "jam-packed" year of learning, experimentation, and abject failure. We're excited for what 2023 will bring and can't wait to share our progress with you.
Thank you!
Thanks for sticking with us and stay tuned for more updates from Muscarian Games!
